Overview

***** TRIPADVISOR CERTIFICATE OF EXCELLENCE 2012 - 2024 *****

The North has become a must-see for any traveler and lover of Ireland. This little corner of our motherland was so ever present in world headlines since 1969 but now experiencing a new dawn.

Enjoy time at leisure to explore Northern Ireland's capital & perhaps let us introduce you to local guides, characters and customs of both the Ulster Irish and Ulster British communities while you travel in your Black Cab tour of Belfast. Paddywagon is a 100% Irish company and we take great pride in our strong links and friendships with all parts of the community in Belfast.

This tour also visits the Celtic crosses at the 6th century monastic site of Monasterboice, set in picturesque countryside. The ruins are of an early Christian settlement. The site houses two churches built in the 14th century or earlier, including a round tower, however the highlight are the 10th century high crosses. This is for many a photographic highlight of their time in Ireland.

Itinerary

  • Dublin to Belfast

With everyone on board, the day begins with a two hour drive from Dublin to Belfast. Sit back and watch Dublin city fade into the background as we enter the green Irish countryside and receive a primer to the history and culture of Northern Ireland from your guide.
  • Monasterboice Celtic- Christian Ruins

Half way to Belfast we'll leave the highway and make a short pit stop at the haunting ruins of Monasterboice. See an amazing 10th century stone round tower in pristine condition and learn how our ancestors sought refuge there from vicious Viking raids in the area. Touch the most beautiful hand carved stone Celtic crosses in Ireland, standing tall over the Irish countryside for over 1,000 years.
  • Titanic Belfast (Entrance Fee Included)

Titanic Belfast extends over nine interactive galleries, with multiple dimensions to the exhibition, drawing together special effects, dark rides, full-scale reconstructions and innovative interactive features. Explore the shipyard, travel to the depths of the ocean and uncover the true legend of Titanic, in the city and dockside where it all began.

Enjoy approximately 150 minutes to explore the exhibition at leisure. Your Skip The Line Entrance Fee (GBP 24.95) is included as standard in the cost of your ticket.

NB: Titanic Belfast has just reopened after major refurbishment. Look forward to amazing new artefacts and experiences!

  • Infamous Black Taxi Tour (Optional)

Perhaps consider using part of your leisure time to enjoy an optional Black Taxi tour of the Falls and Shankill Roads along with the infamous political murals and the "Peace Lines" (walls) separating Irish Nationalist and British Loyalist neighbourhoods. Highly recommended by Lonely Planet and all the leading guidebooks.

Many of the local Black Taxi driver- guides lived through the worst of the 1968 - 1998 conflict now known as the Troubles. They will recount incredible stories of urban warfare and tragedy and help you to understand what drove the conflict from the multiple perspectives involved.

Thankfully, a constitutional settlement was negotiated in 1998 which brought and end to the decades of civil war. Belfast is now statistically safer than the majority of European and North- American cities. So, you can relax and tour this fascinating city with peace of mind!

The Black Taxi tour is an optional extra which you can join on the day (EUR 20.00 / GBP 15.00 per person for 60 minutes)
  • Depart Belfast for Dublin

We'll regroup around 16:00 and head back towards Dublin. After crossing the border we'll return through the rolling countryside of County Louth. We'll make a comfort stop en-route if required and drop you off in Dublin at approximately 18:30.
